Revision work

As I have said in class, revision is important to writers. Your job this week (and this weekend) is to make your work better, using suggestions from your peers (and me, in some cases), to do so. Remember these words from Kurt Vonnegut about revision:

Novelists have, on the average, about the same IQs as the cosmetic consultants at Bloomingdale’s department store. Our power is patience. We have discovered that writing allows even a stupid person to seem halfway intelligent, if only that person will write the same thought over and over again, improving it just a little bit each time. It is a lot like inflating a blimp with a bicycle pump. Anybody can do it. All it takes is time.”

So, make sure you give this work some time. I am not going to check pages on Friday. The expectation is you will work on revision. Here is the rubric I reviewed in class:
Revision rubric
I'll also send it to you on Google docs, so you can paste it into your document.

To be clear, here is what you will need to submit:
Your draft of your writing.
Your revised writing.
A 1-2 page letter (double-spaced) which explains what SPECIFIC changes you made and why (see specifics below)
See exemplar letter here: Wicked Good process letter

You will probably have to make two documents in Google Drive to show the two versions of your writing.
Also, don't delete the comments on your draft from your partner, as that will influence the top part of the rubric.

Specifics of letter:
These are guiding questions. You may not address every single question, but please be specific in your response.
Why did you choose to revise this writing? What were you trying to get across to the reader in your initial draft? What did you want to revise or improve upon in the revision? What did your partner like about your writing? What suggestions did you receive on your writing? What suggestions did you listen to and which ones did you decide not to implement? Why? In other words, what changes did you make and how did it impact the piece? How do you think the writing has changed from the earlier draft? How was this process for revision for you in terms of how it compared to the initial writing?

All of this is due MONDAY, OCTOBER 7! This is a fixed deadline and late penalties will apply.
